Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Account details. Your name and email address when you create an account, so your progress and subscription follow you across devices.
• Learning progress. Which words you have reviewed and your spaced-repetition schedule, so you can pick up where you left off.
• Purchase information. When you subscribe, the purchase is processed by Apple, Google, or Stripe and managed through RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status, not your card number.
• Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics for aggregate website traffic and PostHog Cloud EU for explicit product events such as onboarding, practice completion, paywall views and purchase outcomes. PostHog may receive a random installation identifier, app version, platform and, after sign-in, an internal account identifier. We do not send names, email addresses, spoken audio, Mandarin text, payment details or error reports to PostHog. Automatic touch capture and session recording are disabled.
• Pronunciation audio.When you use the pronunciation check, we record a short audio clip of you speaking and send it to Microsoft Azure’s speech service to score your pronunciation. The clip is used only to generate your score — we do not keep it, and it is not used to identify you or for advertising.

How we use it

To run the service, sync your progress, process and verify your subscription, and improve the app. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

Only the providers that make the app work: Microsoft Azure (pronunciation scoring and the spoken audio you hear), RevenueCat and Stripe (subscriptions), Apple and Google (app-store purchases and Sign in with Apple / Google), Google Analytics (aggregate website traffic), PostHog Cloud EU (product analytics), and our hosting and infrastructure providers. Each processes data only to provide their service.

Error monitoring

We use self-hosted error monitoring (Sentry) that runs on our own servers, not a third-party service. When something breaks, technical diagnostic data (the error message, a stack trace, your browser and device type, the page URL, and a timestamp) is sent to our own servers so we can find and fix the bug. We do not attach personal identifying information by default, and this data is not shared with third parties.

Your choices

You can delete your account at any time from the app (Account → Delete account). Deletion is immediate and permanent: your profile and all learning progress are removed right away and cannot be recovered. You can also email us to request access to or deletion of your data.

Children

ToneDeck is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
